a lost stranger on the street
you pass by without a second glance,
or a match on any dating site-
quickly swiped away -without
a missed heartbeat?
When do they disappear
into the warm rain
from the shower head down the drain;
disappear into the dark shadows
of empty picture frames?
When does that favorite song collapse to a simple hum, melody,
and dives into the abyss like the sun into the sea of distant thought?
When does their soft touch along your fingertips and palms fade,
and the weight no longer presses so deftly on your heart.
